BACK TO THE FUTURE 

Circular society: more than an ecological change of perspective 

Nature shows us what "circular" means: where everything is recycled, something new can be created again. The circular principle has been part of evolution for millions of years and has proven to be resilient to external influences. Today, we live in the Anthropocene, the age of the earth determined by humans. "We" - that will soon be 10 billion people with a corresponding consumption of resources. 

Characterised for decades by limitless growth in a linear thinking world, circular economy suddenly appears to us as something revolutionary, or even science fiction. The discourse on better recycling of raw materials and products is mostly centred around business and technology. Essential social aspects - i.e. the "we" - usually remain unexamined: 

• How can education empower society?
• How do you get from utopia to everyday life?
• And how can the "circular society" be an opportunity for the economy?
• In short: How do WE get back to the future? 

The Environmental Congress 2024 invites stakeholders from research and practice, administration and politics, NGOs and interested citizens to a change of perspective along the "Roadmap to a Circular Society"
