The Peoples' Climate Vote is the largest ever survey of public opinion on climate change, with 1.22 million people from 50 countries taking part. 64 % of respondents see climate change as a global emergency, with the highest approval ratings coming from small island states (74 %) and high-income countries (72 %).
Four climate policies received the most support globally: forest and land protection (54 %), the use of solar, wind and renewable energy (53 %), climate-friendly agricultural techniques (52 %) and investment in green businesses and jobs (50 %). In countries with high emissions from deforestation, there was strong support for the protection of forests, while in countries with high emissions in the energy and heating sector, renewable energies were favoured.
The survey also showed that education has a strong influence on perceptions of the climate emergency, with people with higher education more likely to support climate action. Interestingly, the results showed that even in countries with different income levels and geographical conditions, there is broad public awareness and support for climate action.
