In a circular economy, companies must close loops with innovation partners across industries and sectors (German/English): In a circular economy, companies must work together within their own organisations, with upstream and downstream partners and with the public sector to find innovation partners along the value chains and develop joint cross-industry and cross-sector circular flows.
Innovation ecosystems are about creating value based on economic dynamics. In contrast to biological ecosystems, an innovation ecosystem consists of an interwoven network of multi-layered relationships through which relevant knowledge and resources flow in the context of sustainable shared value creation in order to regenerate the ecosystem itself and make it resilient to external shocks.
In an environment of rapid global change, hardly any company will be able to manage all innovation efforts alone. Systemic challenges such as climate change and the depletion of natural resources are multidimensional challenges that cannot be solved by the innovation processes of a single player or a small number of players. The time of lone wolves seems to be over.
Together with our circle of experts from the Circular Economy Forum Austria, we discussed the following on 1 March 2022 84 participantshow the transformation to a circular economy can be supported by innovation ecosystems.
