Meeting the SDGs requires strong circular economy policies

The report "Meeting the Sustainable Development Goals Requires Strong Circular Economy Policies" by Ecopreneur.eu shows that strong circular economy policies are necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It demonstrates that the EU prioritises the SDGs and sees circular economy practices as a key strategy to promote economic benefits and sustainable development.

The link between the SDGs and the circular economy is emphasised, with the circular economy described as a toolbox to achieve a variety of SDG targets, including climate action, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, and life on land. By introducing circular economy practices, huge amounts of waste and CO2 emissions could be avoided, dependence on raw material imports reduced and transparency in value chains increased.

Finally, the report recommends concrete measures to promote the circular economy at EU level, including financial incentives, procurement policies, innovation support, regulation and voluntary measures. These measures require swift political action from all EU institutions and Member States in order to accelerate the transformation to a circular economy and successfully achieve the SDGs.
