Together for a circular future.

Close the Circle II - Conference for Circular Economy and Energy Transition

On 27 September, the Ghezzo Conference CLOSE THE CIRCLE in co-operation with the ÖGV - Austrian Trade Association took place. Around 100 decision-makers and thought leaders met at Palais Eschenbach - people for whom professional success AND the future of the planet are important.

Climate protection, climate resilience and responsible use of our resources are undisputedly THE challenges of our time: energy efficiency and transition, circular economy, decarbonisation are possible answers. "NOW is the chance to act!" was the central call of the conference. Science, technology, innovation and implementation strength must go hand in hand with the legal framework in order to actively shape the future. Smart resource management and new cooperation models are crucial to the success of the resource transition.

Panel discussion with Thomas Jakl, Environment and Circular Economy Section, BMK, Stefan Blachfellner from Circular Economy Forum Austria, Christian Müller-Guttenbrunn from Müller-Guttenbrunn Group, Sabine Nadherny-Borutin, Chairwoman of ÖCC2, moderated by Ursula Oberhollenzer, MSc on how people and politics can work hand in hand.

Sabine Nadherny-Borutin, Chairwoman of ÖCC², presented an example of a successful circular economy during the panel discussion, moderated by Ursula Oberhollenzer: the Styrian wine bottle since the end of the 1990s. In this round - complemented by Stefan Blachfellner, Managing Director, Circular Economy Forum Austria and Christian Müller-Guttenbrunn, CEO MGG - the summary is: if politics and business are to pull together, there needs to be a common language, exchange and an educational focus.

Reinhard Backhausen, a pioneer of the circular economy and advisor to the Circular Economy Forum Austria, supports companies such as Wolford, whose compostable underwear is a good example of successful implementation. In addition to the practical example, he also presented the Cradle to Cradle certification as an important approach to the circular economy.
