How can the transition to a circular economy succeed – and what role do standards play in this? This key question was the focus of the Circular Economy 2025 Expert Talks.„Circular by Standard: Innovation through standardisation, ecodesign & digital product passports“, which will take place on 25 November 2025 as part of the WE NORM THE FUTURE | Summit 2025 Together with Austrian Startups, we brought together experts from business, science, standardisation and politics to discuss how standards can enable innovation, harmonise data structures and promote the digital product passport as a key instrument of the European Green Deal.
After a welcome address by Valerie Höllinger (CEO, Austrian Standards) and Karin Huber-Heim (Executive Director, Circular Economy Forum Austria), who emphasised the central importance of standards, particularly in the context of the circular economy, the expert contributions and practical reports began, moderated by Gregor Gluttig (Board Member, Circular Economy Forum Austria).
The contributions impressively demonstrated: Standards are the catalyst, that turns good ideas into market-ready solutions. They create comparability, compatibility and transparency – and thus lay the foundations for circular business models, new value creation and resilient supply chains. From eco-design to digitalisation and data management to practical examples from the textile, construction and metal industries, the Expert Talks offered a wide range of insights and concrete approaches for the path to a sustainable, circular future.
