Together for a circular future.

Construction carousel

Construction carousel is a collaborative initiative specialising in the reuse and recycling of building components in large-volume construction projects with the aim of achieving a social impact. The highly collaborative network consists of architects, repair networks and social economy enterprises and aims to create new value creation models for the property industry that incorporate environmental and social aspects into the circular economy.

The initiative approaches property developers and local authorities for demolition and construction projects and works together with them. By offering a "demolition service package", they advise on the demolition and reuse of what would normally be considered waste in the construction industry. In addition to the building materials, building elements such as heating systems, doors, windows and roof panels, which are often still in good condition, are also reused. Demolition material is processed and reused as a raw material in the best possible way.

BauKarussell is carried out by typically disadvantaged workers and is the first initiative in Vienna to offer this type of utilisation-oriented demolition in combination with social impact criteria. The "Social Urban Mining" concept has won several prizes and awards since its launch in 2016.
