The study "Circular Economy in Austrian Mechanical Engineering" analyses the current status and potential of the circular economy in Austrian mechanical and vehicle engineering. The aim of the study is to create a fact-based foundation for the development of strategies and solutions in the area of the circular economy and to determine the current maturity level of companies.
The study is based on a company survey in the mechanical and vehicle engineering sector and shows that many companies have already taken measures to reduce resource consumption and implement circular business models. Nevertheless, the full economic and ecological potential of the circular economy has not yet been realised. The study identifies structural prerequisites that are required to further anchor the circular economy and shows that life cycle extension services and circular business models in particular could be utilised even more.
While in many cases there is a broad knowledge of the circular economy at management level, there is often a lack of concrete targets for reducing resource consumption and the broad application of circular economy principles. For companies that want to take a closer look at the circular economy, the study offers pointers for the implementation and further development of circular business models.
