Together for a circular future.

The profitability of remanufacture

In his presentation "Remanufacturing: Economics and Skills of the Past", Walter Stahel analyses the economic benefits of remanufacturing, i.e. the reprocessing of used products. He shows that remanufacturing is considerably cheaper than manufacturing new products and can result in cost savings of up to 88 % and a reduction in environmental impact.

The slides describe how remanufacturing is successfully used in various industries, such as the automotive industry, where remanufactured engines and components are both economically and ecologically beneficial. However, care must be taken to determine whether companies are actually "upcycling" through remanufacturing or whether it is profit-driven greenwashing at the expense of the environment.
