The development and implementation of cycle-orientated Service systems The aim of the new mobility models in the manufacturing industry, such as rental or sharing models, is to fulfil needs through services rather than sales, which can significantly reduce material consumption and lead to better use of resources. The BMK has published a report on this, which formulates requirements for research.
The report defines the economic and ecological conditions under which such service systems are particularly promising and identifies the research and development requirements for their realisation. The analysis shows that the construction sector and metal production in Austria in particular have great potential for the implementation of such models.
Product and service innovations, business model innovations and market system innovations can support the transition to a circular economy. There are also policy options to promote these service systems, including the extension of producer responsibility and tax incentives.
