We will be discussing this topic in March:

„Brownfield sites as future locations - a space for the circular economy“

The deindustrialisation of Austria is progressing quietly - many companies have closed down in recent years, many have moved abroad and others are thinking about it. What remains are memories, empty buildings and dry wasteland.
But could these brownfield sites become a central building block for new economic sectors? After all, the circular economy requires one thing above all: space.

Discarded products that are still usable must be collected and moved to new locations where they can be put back into service. Other products, scarred by use, need to be repaired and brought up to date through professional refurbishment. We need rooms to reassemble components from obsolete products or to collect, sort and reintroduce materials into the cycle.

Space creates possibilities and the possibilities are endless. What is needed are powerful impulses so that the dormant ideas can gain momentum and become an avalanche of green solutions. We would like to discuss this topic with you.

  • What infrastructure do we need in Austria so that the transition towards a circular economy can work?
  • What roles could the brownfields distributed throughout Austria play in the circular economy system? (e.g. collection point, redistribution centres, urban mining,...)
  • What economic added value can be created? (e.g. jobs, local value creation, new business models, cost reduction)
  • What challenges need to be overcome?
  • What new business models could emerge?
  • What investments are necessary? (IT, personnel, know-how)
  • How can material flows be managed?
  • How can the use of brownfield sites be promoted to foster the circular economy?
  • What examples of good practice do you know?
