How can closed-loop solutions be scaled? Scalability is one of the major challenges that circular economy concepts will have to face in the future. The article \"The Circularity Paradox: Overcoming the Problem of Scale in Achieving a Closed Loop\" sheds light on possible solutions for implementing a scalable circular economy in the field of electronics recycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A central problem is the scaling of the Supply chain<\/em>. Although many certified recycling companies exist, they are often scattered, making it difficult to track and utilise recycled materials on a large scale. Consolidated supply chains could ensure reliable supplies of raw materials and make the circular economy more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Large quantities of e-waste speed up the recycling process, make sorting and despatch more efficient and facilitate material tracking. Primary raw materials are often more reliable and cheaper than recycled materials, which makes scaling even more difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution therefore lies in cooperation and possible consolidation within the industry. ITAD companies and recyclers must co-operate in order to achieve economies of scale. This requires investment and possibly regulatory measures to make recycling cost-efficient in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
